Building a Wilder Youth Movement

Are you a young person in Somerset who dreams of a greener, wilder future? We want to meet you!

We support young people to build initial connections with nature, provide guidance and training though our Youth Forum, hold youth specific volunteering days and offer work experience opportunities. Through these activities and more, we are committed to involving youth voice in the Wildlife Trusts movement and supporting the many young people across Somerset already taking a leading role in nature recovery.

We want to work with young people in a way that works for you, so are always open to feedback, ideas, and suggestions.

Wilder Youth Voice

We are keen to give young people a voice within the charity and the environmental politics and policy of Somerset — we are setting up a Youth Forum for this purpose. If you want to help shape the charity’s youth offer and get involved in local wildlife conservation, or just want to check it out and maybe meet some like-minded people, email our Wilder Youth Officer Siân on sian.bentley@somersetwildlife.org. Alternatively, follow our youth Instagram, @wilderyouthswt, and direct message us there.

Do you have an idea for a project or campaign? Are you part of an eco-group in or out of school? Get in touch to see if we can support you!

I want to see a world that has clean oceans, and that doesn’t have plastic pollution anywhere, and people live in harmony with nature

Work experience week

We have now filled both our work experience places.

If you are interested in carrying out your work experience week with us, please contact our Volunteering and Community Support Officer Hannah Paddison: hannah.paddison@somersetwildlife.org.

Our work experience week will be running from Monday 17th June - Friday 21st June. Work experience placements are provided to offer an insight into the working world, including the process of applying and interviewing for placements. We aim to keep this process as flexible as possible accommodating the individual needs of each student, and our aim is to get to know the young person.

Youth Volunteering

Watch out for our youth volunteering and activity days in 2024. All opportunities can be booked below, but please email our Volunteering and Community Support Officer Hannah Paddison if you have any more questions: hannah.paddison@somersetwildlife.org
